Class overview
Priest class deep dive confirmed
The official class deep dive confirms Fear Ward and Devouring Plague for all Priests at level 20, Divine Spirit baseline at level 30 and Shadow Word: Death baseline at level 32. Discipline gains Penance, Holy gains Binding Heal and Prayer of Mending, while Shadow receives extensive talent changes. Gnome Priests also gain new racial spells. Beta tuning remains subject to change.
PRIEST · PRE-LAUNCH FIELD GUIDEPlaying a Priest in Forever
A practical first-pass guide built from confirmed Forever information. Final talents, rotations, stat priorities and best-in-slot recommendations will be added after live verification.
CLASS IDENTITY
Priests channel faith through both healing and destructive magic. Forever presents them as spiritual specialists able to support allies or harm enemies, giving the class a strong choice between group support and offensive spellcasting.
RACE OPTIONS
Confirmed Horde options are Troll and Undead. Alliance options are Dwarf, Gnome, Human and Night Elf. Gnome Priest is one of Forever's new race/class combinations.
WHO SHOULD PLAY IT?
Choose Priest if healing and ranged spellcasting appeal more than physical combat. It should suit players who enjoy keeping track of allies and encounters, with an offensive path available when support is not the immediate job.
SKYBORNE
Neither Skyborne faction is listed as Priest at launch. The new race therefore is not an option for Priest players despite both factions having access to several other shared classes.
FOREVER SYSTEM TO WATCHForever changes bonus healing so it also grants one third as much bonus damage, explicitly helping healing specialisations while questing. Divine Spirit is also becoming baseline rather than requiring a talent.
Preparing for 1–60
EARLY JOURNEY
Use the opening levels to learn the class's core resource flow, survival tools and combat rhythm. Keep useful equipment current rather than following a pre-launch speed route built on assumptions.
LEVEL 25+
Forever's account-wide Legacy System normally unlocks when your first character reaches level 25. A Priest main can establish that progression naturally without requiring an alt first.
RULESET
Forever asks you to choose a ruleset rather than a traditional realm. Pick the environment that matches how you actually want to level and play, particularly if open PvP would materially change your experience.
LEVEL 60
At launch this section will expand into tested builds, gearing, PvE, PvP and activity-specific recommendations. Until then we are separating confirmed systems from beta-dependent optimisation.
Progression milestones
PHASE · PRIORITY · STATUS
- Early: Core abilities, survival and equipment (Framework ready)
- Mid: Develop preferred playstyle and group role (Launch verification)
- 25+: Legacy progression (System confirmed)
- 60: Builds, gear, PvE and PvP optimisation (Full guide after launch)
Forever class deep dive: confirmed 30 September
Talent framework: Priest talents begin at level 10, with milestone talents at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points. Respeccing requires a class trainer, and Dual Specialization becomes available at level 40.
Major baseline changes
Fear Ward and Devouring Plague become available to every Priest at level 20 regardless of race. Divine Spirit becomes baseline at level 30, while Shadow Word: Death is added as a baseline ability at level 32. Racial Priest spells remain, but the racial sets have been re-evaluated, including new Gnome Priest abilities.
Gnome and Dwarf racial spells
Gnome Priests gain Confounding Flash at level 10, an area confusion effect, and Contingency Plan at level 20, a long-duration ward that triggers a shield and heal-over-time when its target drops below 35% health. Dwarf Priests retain Desperate Prayer and gain Chastise at level 20, dealing damage and briefly immobilising the target.
What this means for builds
Forever preserves Discipline, Holy and Shadow while widening the baseline toolkit. Discipline continues to emphasise shielding and mitigation, Holy retains broad direct and sustained healing, and Shadow remains focused on damage-over-time pressure. The removal of race-locking from Fear Ward and Devouring Plague should make race choice less dominated by those two historically important Priest spells.
Reviewed 22 October 2026. The class overview follows Blizzard's published Forever class deep dives; the 16 October beta changes are noted in the Talents & Builds section above and take precedence over older beta layouts. Performance rankings and BiS remain provisional until launch testing. Blizzard has explicitly marked these class designs as beta material, so exact launch talent builds and numerical rankings will be updated again when tuning is closer to final.
What is the best Priest race in WoW Forever?
There is not enough confirmed live data to name one race as the definitive best Priest race yet. More importantly, Forever changes one of the old reasons for choosing a Priest race: Fear Ward and Devouring Plague are available to every Priest at level 20 regardless of race.
Priest racial spells still matter. Blizzard has confirmed that every Priest race keeps two race-specific Priest spells and that these have been re-evaluated for Forever. Gnome Priest is a new combination: Confounding Flash is learned at level 10 and can confuse up to five nearby enemies, while Contingency Plan at level 20 places a ward that triggers an absorb shield and heal-over-time effect when its target falls below 35% health.
Dwarf Priest retains Desperate Prayer and receives Chastise at level 20, dealing damage and briefly immobilising its target. Dwarf racial design also retains Stoneform's Bleed, Poison and Disease utility, now with Physical damage reduction rather than an Armor increase.
So the useful pre-launch answer is not “pick race X or your Priest is wrong.” Gnome offers distinctive control and emergency-support tools; Dwarf has established defensive and utility strengths; the other Priest races remain valid choices while tuning continues. We will rank them for PvE, PvP and levelling only when the evidence supports doing so.
See the Races & Factions guide for the full confirmed race/class matrix.

Forever changes
Gnome Priest is a new Forever race/class combination. Skyborne are not currently listed as Priest-compatible.
Forever keeps strong class identity while updating abilities, talents and gearing. Exact talent rankings, rotations and BiS recommendations remain beta-sensitive and will be dated when added.
BETA UPDATE · 30 SEPTEMBER 2026Confirmed Priest class changes
Blizzard has now detailed the Priest revamp across Discipline, Holy and Shadow. The update broadens useful choices through new and adjusted baseline abilities, refreshed racial Priest spells and revised talents for healing, utility and Shadow damage.
Talents unlock at level 10 and retain the familiar structure, now adding a 16-point milestone alongside the 11-, 21- and 31-point milestones. These changes give us a firmer foundation for the eventual build guides, but beta tuning is still active.
We will hold back definitive talent rankings and endgame builds until the numbers settle closer to launch.
Levelling 1–60
Priest levelling: confirmed ability milestones
Reviewed 22 October 2026. This path highlights confirmed unlocks and practical decisions rather than claiming a tested speed-level build.
- Level 10: talent allocation begins. Gnome Priests also learn Confounding Flash, an area confusion spell, at level 10.
- Level 20: Fear Ward and Devouring Plague become baseline for every Priest regardless of race. Gnome Priests receive Contingency Plan; Dwarf Priests learn Chastise.
- Level 25 or another qualifying trigger: the account-wide Legacy System generally becomes accessible as you earn your first Legacy Point.
- Level 30: Divine Spirit becomes a baseline ability. Check its buff before group content.
- Level 32: Shadow Word: Death unlocks; it damages the caster if it fails to kill the target. Use it deliberately rather than as an automatic button every time it is available.
- Level 40: Dual Specialization becomes available, allowing separate questing and group setups.
Questing versus healing
When solo, manage mana, defensive shields and safe pulls; compare Holy and Shadow damage options against the points you have actually trained. When healing a group, take advantage of Prayer of Healing now targeting the chosen target's party (and pets), not automatically the Priest's own party.

Talents & builds
Priest trees in Forever: four milestone tiers
Talents start at level 10, with milestone talents at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points. All three trees have substantial Forever changes. The 15 October beta update supersedes earlier tree positions and tuning.
Discipline: shields, mana and versatile healing
- Soul Warding (16-point milestone): reduces Power Word: Shield cooldown and mana cost, and requires Improved Power Word: Shield.
- Penance (21-point milestone): channels healing on an ally or damage on an enemy. It provides a meaningful decision between healing and offence.
- Renewed Hope and Divine Aegis: add synergy with Weakened Soul and critical-heal shielding.
- Latest beta layout: Mental Strength moves to row 2 and Improved Power Word: Shield moves to row 3, so older point allocations cannot be copied unchanged.
Holy: direct, mixed and bouncing healing
- Binding Heal (16-point milestone): a cast that heals the Priest and a chosen friendly target together.
- Litany of Light: supports alternating different healing spells instead of repeating the same spell mindlessly.
- Prayer of Mending (31-point milestone): moves healing across nearby group or raid members after triggering; its usage depends on incoming damage patterns.
Shadow: sustained damage and managed risk
- Vampiric Embrace: a 16-point milestone; its cooldown moved to 30 seconds in the latest beta notes.
- Devouring Contagion: can spread Devouring Plague to nearby enemies when its target dies, subject to the updated beta mechanics.
- Shadowform: allows non-healing spells while active and alters mana cost and damage mechanics.
- Shadow Word: Death: an execute-style option with self-damage risk if the target survives. Do not assume an early-beta cooldown is current: the later note lists 18 seconds.
Build status: confirmed talent purposes and milestone positions do not automatically establish optimum talent points for healing, questing, raids or PvP. Final point allocations and rotation tests remain pending.

PvE guidance
Priest PvE: practical healing decisions
Forever Priests can heal, shield and deal spell damage, but the available decisions differ between Discipline, Holy and Shadow.
Before pulling
- Agree which group members you will heal and which Priest abilities overlap with another healer's cooldowns.
- Apply relevant baseline buffs, including Divine Spirit after level 30.
- Confirm party targeting: Prayer of Healing heals the chosen target's party and pets. Do not assume it heals your own party automatically.
When damage starts
- Discipline: Power Word: Shield and, if talented, Penance can support controlled damage mitigation. Watch Weakened Soul interactions and mana costs.
- Holy: Binding Heal may be suitable when the Priest and a friend both need healing; Prayer of Mending creates additional opportunities when predictable group damage is incoming.
- Shadow: sustain damage when your assigned role and mana allow. Do not sacrifice essential group support merely to chase an unverified damage benchmark.
Not yet validated: healing-per-second rankings, boss-specific talent builds, mana breakpoint math, encounter rotations and healer BiS gear.
PvP guidance
Priest PvP: what the toolkit changes
Fear Ward is baseline at level 20 for all Priest races. Choosing Dwarf solely for that historically race-locked spell would therefore be outdated Forever advice.
- Gnome: Confounding Flash is an area confusion tool; Contingency Plan offers a reactive shield and heal-over-time ward when its target falls below 35% health.
- Dwarf: Chastise damages and briefly immobilises a humanoid target. It is different utility from Gnome's reactive protection.
- Discipline: shield strength and survival talents may be valuable when pressured, but the strongest allocation depends on opponents and actual beta/live tuning.
- Shadow: pay attention to the self-damage component of Shadow Word: Death and the beta-adjusted cooldowns rather than pressing it without regard to health.
Do not label a race or specialisation universally best for battlegrounds or duels without reliable matchup testing. Check the PvP rules and rank guide separately from this class toolkit overview.

Gear & items
Priest gearing: distinguish the job first
- Healing: compare gear for sustained casting, mana regeneration and effective healing rather than reading an offensive spell-DPS ranking as a healer list. Blizzard rebalanced Meditation and several mana-oriented talents.
- Shadow damage: consider the practical impact of damage and spell-hit tools in the current talent tree. Shadow Focus has moved and now supports hit chance rather than reducing resist chance.
- Defence: cloth armour makes emergency protection, positioning and available defensive racial abilities matter when evaluating an upgrade.
- Mixed solo / healer play: Forever converts bonus healing into a smaller amount of bonus damage, so healing pieces may remain useful while questing rather than being completely discarded.
BiS and stat weights not yet verified. Separate gear lists for levelling, healing, Shadow PvE and PvP must be based on final item sources and tested encounters.
