Priority 1: cup and purifier

Hydration is the first recurring resource problem. Build a cup and Simple Purifier; run it repeatedly to build a small reserve of freshwater. Keep planks available for your cooking and purification setup.

Priority 2: food production

Choose a fishing rod and grill as an easy starting combination. Add crop plots for potatoes and beets when seeds and planting space are available. Simple food is enough for the opening game; Cooking Pot meals become more valuable once you have sustainable ingredients.

Priority 3: tool continuity

A spare Plastic Hook, Building Hammer and spear prevent supply interruptions. If your only hook breaks before you collect replacement materials, progression becomes harder. A spear lets you respond to shark attacks without diving into danger.

Priority 4: Research Table and storage

Research newly discovered materials such as metal ingots, glass, bolts, hinges and vine goo to unlock more useful craftables. Build storage early enough that your inventory is not full whenever you reach an island. Organise common building materials separately from rare electronics.

Priority 5: Collection Nets

Place Collection Nets across the side of the raft that intersects floating debris. They produce a steady stream of basic resources and save considerable time compared with manual hooking. Empty them frequently and expand the line as your foundations grow.

Priority 6: upgrades and story preparation

Move toward an Advanced Purifier, better grill, smelter, Receiver, Antennas and battery once your metal and copper supply supports them. Engines and steering come later from Vasagatan; the first Radio Tower usually requires only working navigation equipment and careful sailing.

What not to rush

Don't build a huge foundation footprint before solving food and water. Don't spend all your metal on cosmetic construction while tools are still weak. Prioritise anything that reduces repetitive chores before optional decorations.

A practical resource rule

Spend rare materials on a working improvement before a cosmetic one. A Research Table that unlocks technology, a Smelter that opens metalworking, a net that gathers debris or a better purifier that secures water contributes every in-game day. A decorative railing contributes appearance, which is worthwhile later once your essentials are dependable.

Step-by-step field checklist

  1. Cup plus Simple Purifier secures drinking water.
  2. Grill plus fishing rod or early crops secures nourishment.
  3. Building Hammer and spear keep foundations intact.
  4. Research Table unlocks improvements from gathered materials.
  5. Collection Nets begin automation; Smelter and upgraded tools support the transition to electronics.

What to do if progress stalls

If you are tempted by a later-game station but lack any way to smelt metal or recharge batteries, first build the prerequisite supply chain. A recipe appearing in the research list does not mean you can sustain operating it.

Preparation and practical takeaway

Keep one storage chest devoted to emergency planks, plastic, rope, scrap and replacement tool materials.
