Class overview
Playing a Mage in Forever
A practical first-pass guide built from confirmed Forever information. Final talents, rotations, stat priorities and best-in-slot recommendations will be added after live verification.
CLASS IDENTITY
Mages are fragile ranged spellcasters who trade physical durability for powerful frost, fire and arcane magic. Positioning, control and efficient spell use should matter throughout Forever's slower world-focused journey.
RACE OPTIONS
Confirmed Horde Mage choices are Orc, Troll and Undead. Alliance choices are Gnome, Human and High Order Skyborne. Orc Mage is a new Forever combination, while High Order Skyborne gain Mage as their faction-specific class.
WHO SHOULD PLAY IT?
Choose Mage if you prefer ranged spell damage, control and planning over melee durability. The class rewards players comfortable managing distance and resources rather than absorbing mistakes with armour.
SKYBORNE
High Order Skyborne can become Mages and begin on Zephras Isle from levels 1–12. Windshaper Skyborne cannot choose Mage, making this one of the clearest class differences between the two Skyborne factions.
FOREVER SYSTEM TO WATCHForever gives spellcaster-oriented weapons spell damage and healing, making weapon upgrades more meaningful during levelling than they traditionally were for casters. Exact stat weighting still needs live testing.
Preparing for 1–60
EARLY JOURNEY
Use the opening levels to learn the class's core resource flow, survival tools and combat rhythm. Keep useful equipment current rather than following a pre-launch speed route built on assumptions.
LEVEL 25+
Forever's account-wide Legacy System normally unlocks when your first character reaches level 25. A Mage main can establish that progression naturally without requiring an alt first.
RULESET
Forever asks you to choose a ruleset rather than a traditional realm. Pick the environment that matches how you actually want to level and play, particularly if open PvP would materially change your experience.
LEVEL 60
At launch this section will expand into tested builds, gearing, PvE, PvP and activity-specific recommendations. Until then we are separating confirmed systems from beta-dependent optimisation.

Official Mage class deep dive: October 2026 beta
Blizzard's 7 October class preview strengthens the identity of Arcane, Fire and Frost while encouraging hybrid combinations. These are announced beta changes, not final best-in-slot builds.
Arcane talents
Arcane BlastImportant update from Blizzard's 16 October beta build: Arcane Blast remains an 11-point ability but now casts in 1.5 seconds and grants a stacking spell-damage benefit based on Intellect. Missile Barrage moved to the first row as a two-point talent. Arcane Wrath is now the 16-point milestone, so the earlier October talent layout must not be used as an up-to-date levelling tree.Missile Barrage is a 16-point milestone. The tree emphasises using Arcane power to support other spell schools as well as Arcane damage. Consider how these milestones affect spell selection while levelling, but do not treat a provisional talent order as a proven optimal route.
Fire talents
Heating UpFire's Heating Up and Pyroblast interactions were adjusted again in the 16 October build. Wake of Fire reverted to Improved Fire Blast, with a range benefit. Fire Power was redesigned. Check the current talent layout before planning an exact Fire levelling build.
Frost talents
Ice LanceFrost Blast is now learned at level 24 and provides a 40% slow. Ice Lance's bonus against frozen targets was reduced from 300% to 200%. Winter's Chill was redesigned around Cone of Cold. These 16 October updates supersede the older Frost preview; live damage priorities remain unverified.Fingers of Frost expand Frost's control-and-damage toolkit, with revisions to Ice Block and Cold Snap talent placement. For levelling, Frost's control may help manage difficult pulls, but the strongest route remains unverified.
Hybrid and levelling considerations
Blizzard has also highlighted cross-school possibilities including Frostfire Bolt. Talents start at level 10; the milestone structure includes 11-, 16-, 21- and 31-point talents. Plan around the abilities available at your current level rather than copying an untested level-60 build. See the levelling guide for general progression.

Talents & Builds
16 October beta update: Frost Blast is learned at level 24 as a short-cast slowing spell. Previous beta talent diagrams may now be obsolete, so we will not label a pre-launch best build.
