Vincent the Frostbringer V Rising boss guide artwork

Vincent the Frostbringer is part of the Risen Ancients V Rising 1.1 boss-guide progression. This guide covers where to find the encounter, the attacks that matter, a practical Normal strategy, Brutal Mode considerations and the progression rewards.

Location and preparation

Verified 1.1 level: 44

Finding Vincent

Vincent patrols the roads of central Dunley Farmlands.

His route begins and ends near the Militia Encampment north of the Haunted Iron Mine, passing around Mosswick Village and the Dunley Farmers Market before returning towards his starting area.

He is accompanied by two Militia Crossbowmen.

Recommended approach

Use V Blood tracking to locate him.

Rather than immediately attacking in the middle of a busy road, observe nearby militia patrols and identify a location where you can fight without attracting additional enemies.

If practical, clear his starting encampment and engage him there.

Avoid initiating the fight beside another V Blood carrier unless you're deliberately attempting to use the resulting faction conflict.

Attacks and abilities

Key attacks

Frost Guard: Vincent surrounds himself with a Frost shield. Damaging him while it is active can freeze the attacker, so stop attacking until it drops.

Ice Slam: Vincent channels before releasing a freezing pulse around himself.

Frost Arrows: he fires a six-projectile cone capable of freezing targets it catches.

Charge: Vincent rushes forward while swinging his mace, dealing damage and knockback.

How to beat Vincent the Frostbringer

Vincent is a roaming boss, so choose the battlefield rather than accepting the first place you find him. Use obstacles to break his approach and sidestep the Frost Arrow cone. Most importantly, do not fire a committed attack into Frost Guard.

Brutal Mode strategy

Brutal difficulty

Vincent applies a persistent Frost aura on Brutal that causes unavoidable chip damage while engaged. This changes the fight from pure avoidance into a controlled damage race: avoid his major attacks, but do not become so passive that the aura wins by attrition.

Obstacles and ranged pressure are particularly effective, and defensive spells help cover the damage you cannot completely avoid.

Rewards and unlocks

Rewards and prison progression

Defeating Vincent unlocks a major part of castle progression.

Vincent's rewards

Unlock | Purpose

Veil of Frost | Frost movement ability

Prison Cell | Hold captured humans

Prison Framework | Build dedicated prison areas

Reinforced Plank | Advanced crafting material

Why Prison Cells matter

Prison Cells allow you to capture suitable human enemies and retain them inside your castle.

Instead of relying entirely on finding a desirable blood type while exploring, you can maintain access to prisoners whose blood quality supports particular builds.

This becomes increasingly useful as you begin tailoring equipment and spell choices to different encounters.

Your first prison: Recommended setup

Starter prison plan

Construct a small dedicated prison area within your castle.

Place one or two Prison Cells initially.

Obtain the appropriate ability for subduing and transporting a human prisoner through castle progression.

Capture a suitable enemy with a useful blood type and high blood quality.

Monitor the prisoner's health and misery before extracting blood.

Use fish and other appropriate supplies to maintain the prisoner.

Which blood types should you collect?

For our Risen Ancients guide series, I'd prioritise maintaining a small selection rather than immediately filling the castle with prisoners.

Blood type | Main reason to keep it

Rogue | Mobility and weapon-oriented builds

Warrior | Combat and survivability

Scholar | Spell-focused builds

Worker | Resource-gathering expeditions

Brute | Sustained combat and recovery

A prison containing several useful blood types provides more flexibility than relying on one blood type for every boss.

Managing prisoner health and misery

Extracting blood can harm a prisoner and increase misery.

Repeated extraction without proper management can eventually kill the prisoner, meaning you'll lose access to that blood quality.

Use appropriate fish and supplies to maintain health and reduce misery.

This connects directly to our Finn the Fisherman guide: fishing becomes substantially more useful once you've established a prison.

Reinforced Planks

Vincent also unlocks Reinforced Planks, an important advanced crafting material.

Begin producing these as resources permit. They will be required for subsequent equipment and castle progression.
