Tristan the Vampire Hunter is part of the Risen Ancients V Rising 1.1 boss-guide progression. This guide covers where to find the encounter, the attacks that matter, a practical Normal strategy, Brutal Mode considerations and the progression rewards.

Location and preparation

Verified 1.1 level: 44

Where to find Tristan

Tristan patrols roads in northern Farbane Woods and parts of southern Dunley Farmlands.

Use the V Blood tracking interface rather than relying on a fixed spawn point.

Bandits and militia do not normally attack him, so don't assume a nearby camp will distract him. However, he is hostile towards creatures and undead enemies, which can occasionally provide opportunities to redirect his attention.

Choosing your battlefield

The most useful preparation is finding a spacious clearing with an indestructible obstacle nearby.

Avoid bridges, narrow paths and confined camp entrances. Tristan's Fire Bombs and Flaming Crossbow can quickly make these areas difficult to navigate.

A large rock is especially valuable on Brutal because you can move around it while his Whirlwind is active.

Attacks and abilities

Key attacks

Flaming Strike: Tristan ignites his sword and delivers a delayed forward slash that burns on contact.

Icy Swing: a wide Frost-coated sword sweep that applies Cold.

Lunge: an unblockable forward thrust that stuns on hit and is often followed by another sword attack.

Flaming Crossbow: used at range and applies burning damage.

Fire Bomb: from roughly half health, Tristan throws a bomb that splits into smaller explosives and leaves burning ground.

How to beat Tristan the Vampire Hunter

Tristan mixes Fire and Frost, so avoid letting either status dictate your movement. Sidestep Lunge rather than trying to block it, maintain room for the Fire Bomb spread and punish the recovery after his committed sword attacks.

Brutal Mode strategy

Brutal difficulty walkthrough

Additional mechanic: Whirlwind

Tristan's Brutal encounter introduces Whirlwind at approximately 50% health.

He spins rapidly, gains movement speed and inflicts substantial damage in a large area. He can repeat the attack later in the encounter.

Why Whirlwind is dangerous

Unlike his individual sword attacks, Whirlwind continues for an extended period.

Barrier spells do not reliably protect you throughout the attack. A counter such as Blood Rite can block its initial hit, but you still need to escape the remaining sequence.

Recommended response

Surviving Whirlwind

Begin the encounter near a large indestructible obstacle.

Watch for Tristan's spinning attack as his health approaches halfway.

Move around the obstacle to interrupt his direct pursuit.

Use Veil to create distance if he approaches.

Continue moving until the spinning animation finishes.

Re-engage only when the attack has ended.

The obstacle is not a guaranteed exploit. It is a practical positioning tool that makes Tristan's sustained pursuit easier to manage.

Additional Brutal considerations

Avoid confined spaces. Fire Bombs combined with Whirlwind can remove almost every safe escape route.

Don't waste Veil. Keep it available as Tristan approaches the second phase.

Consider a second defensive spell. Sacrificing some offensive damage can make the encounter more manageable.

Don't rely entirely on summons. Tristan's area attacks can eliminate them quickly, although they may temporarily distract him.

Players discussing the encounter in 2025 also reported success using terrain, fire resistance and carefully timed defensive spells. These are community strategies rather than mandatory requirements.

Rewards and unlocks

Tristan grants Blood Hunger, a Tier 3 Blood Spell Point, the Greater Blood Essence recipe and the Greatsword recipe.
