V Rising 1.1 boss guide for Sir Erwin the Gallant Cavalier, covering location, key attacks, Normal and Brutal Mode strategy, rewards and progression.

Sir Erwin the Gallant Cavalier is part of the Risen Ancients V Rising 1.1 boss-guide progression. This guide covers where to find the encounter, the attacks that matter, a practical Normal strategy, Brutal Mode considerations and the progression rewards.
Verified 1.1 level: 46
Erwin occupies the Horse Racing Track in western Dunley Farmlands.
Unlike a roaming boss, he can be approached deliberately without waiting for a patrol to reach a suitable location.
Before engaging, identify solid obstacles around the track. These can help interrupt his charge path and provide temporary cover.
One unusual environmental detail is that the racing track features dynamic cloud cover during daytime. Nevertheless, don't assume the entire area is permanently protected from sunlight. Check the actual shade around your chosen fighting position.
Swipe
Erwin performs a delayed horizontal sword swing while mounted. It has relatively short reach but covers a wide arc.
Counter: Stay outside melee range or circle tightly around him when safe.
Twin Lightning
Erwin launches two Ball Lightning projectiles towards the direction in which the player is moving.
He may cancel the attack early, producing fewer projectiles.
Counter: Move consistently to bait his aim, then abruptly change direction as he fires.
Holy Artillery
Two delayed lightning blasts strike marked locations from above.
Counter: Leave the indicated areas immediately and avoid stopping to complete a long weapon attack.
Stunning Leap
Charger leaps high into the air and crashes down, dealing lightning damage over a large area.
Erwin is briefly stunned after landing.
Counter: Escape the landing zone, then exploit his recovery.
Lightning Charge
Erwin charges towards the player, stunning anyone struck.
Counter: Dodge perpendicular to his movement once his direction is committed.
Hyper Charge
Charger rears up while Erwin raises his sword, then charges forward with a wave of small lightning strikes following the attack.
Counter: Move sideways and avoid crossing the subsequent lightning pattern.
Brutal: Lightning Horse
Lightning Charge also summons an additional spectral lightning horse. It remains active and continues charging the player independently.
Multiple horses can accumulate if they are not destroyed.
Counter: Eliminate each summoned horse immediately. They have very little health.
Start from medium range and allow Erwin to approach you.
Trying to run after Charger wastes time and makes it harder to react when Erwin suddenly turns towards you.
Use Chaos Volley or your crossbow to establish damage while keeping a clear escape route.
This is one of the most important mechanics to learn.
Erwin predicts the direction you're moving rather than simply firing at your current position.
To avoid the projectiles:
1. Move consistently in one direction while he prepares the attack.
2. Wait until the projectiles are released.
3. Change direction sharply.
4. Resume attacking once the projectiles have passed.
Don't change direction too early, or he may simply aim towards your new path.
When Erwin calls down lightning, look for the two marked impact locations.
Move away from both before resuming damage.
Avoid using a stationary ranged attack while standing inside an indicator.
When Charger leaps, move outside the landing area.
Erwin becomes briefly stunned after landing, giving you an opportunity to attack without immediately worrying about another charge.
This is an excellent moment for Chaos Volley, X-Strike or a suitable ultimate.
Don't move back into the impact area prematurely.
When Erwin announces his charge, stop committing to attacks.
Move perpendicular to his approach rather than directly backwards.
Because Charger moves quickly, running along the same line as the charge is less reliable than moving out of its path.
Hyper Charge has a more obvious wind-up, with Charger rearing up before accelerating.
Avoid the initial charge and remain clear of the subsequent lightning wave.
Don't immediately chase behind Erwin after he passes.
Maintain ranged pressure and save your strongest attacks for Stunning Leap's recovery.
A controlled fight is more effective than attempting to pursue every movement across the track.
Additional enemies can accumulate
Brutal difficulty introduces a particularly disruptive mechanic: Erwin summons a lightning horse alongside Lightning Charge.
The summoned horse remains active after the initial charge and independently attempts to stun the player. If Erwin uses the ability again before it is destroyed, multiple horses can occupy the arena.
Normal versus Brutal
Mechanic | Normal | Brutal
Mounted combat | Yes | Yes
Lightning Charge | Erwin charges | Erwin and spectral horse charge
Persistent summons | None | Lightning horses
Additional stun threats | Erwin | Erwin and summons
Main priority | Avoid charges | Destroy summoned horses
The first time Erwin summons a lightning horse, switch your attention to it.
Its health is low, so a suitable ranged attack or area spell should remove it quickly.
Do not leave it alive while concentrating exclusively on Erwin. The additional charge can interrupt your movement and leave you exposed to his next attack.
If multiple horses appear, prioritise clearing them before attempting sustained damage against the boss.
Keep an offensive spell available for the summons.
Avoid using every ability during Erwin's recovery animation if another lightning horse is still active.
Use obstacles to interfere with charge paths, but don't rely on them as permanent protection.
Community reports from the 1.1 release also emphasise destroying the summoned horses immediately and using the track's obstacles to manage Erwin's turning radius.
Verified 1.1 rewards: Tier 1 Spell Point, Stables, and Stables furnishing decor.
Defeating Erwin unlocks the Stables system introduced in the Invaders of Oakveil update.
Sir Erwin's rewards
Unlock | Purpose
Tier 1 Storm Spell Point | Storm magic progression
Cyclone | Storm spell option
Ball Lightning | Storm spell option
Discharge | Storm spell option
Stables | Horse management
Stables Furnishing | Decorative stable construction
Stables offer a dedicated structure for maintaining horses at your castle.
The 1.1 system allows horses to be kept fed using Plant Fibre, while flowers can improve their attributes permanently. Vampire Horses can also benefit from additional stable-related perks.
For players regularly travelling between Farbane, Dunley and later regions, this is a useful quality-of-life upgrade.
Return to your castle after defeating Erwin.
Review the newly available Stables structure.
Construct your initial stable in an accessible part of the castle.
Assign your preferred horse.
Provide Plant Fibre for its feeding requirements.
Review available flower-based improvements.
Expand the stable area when you begin maintaining multiple horses.
Cyclone provides a moving offensive projectile, Ball Lightning offers sustained area damage, and Discharge provides a defensive counter option.
For players following our ranged build, Ball Lightning is worth considering for future encounters involving groups of enemies.
For those who prefer a defensive approach, Discharge offers another option.
The important point is that these are post-Erwin choices. None is necessary to defeat him.
