Nibbles cannot be found wandering the map. He must be summoned through a Vermin Nest.
The Vermin Nest becomes available through early castle progression and allows you to produce several types of creatures.

Place the structure somewhere suitable for combat, preferably on open ground with room to move around it.
Avoid narrow corridors, your main castle entrance or an area surrounded by important crafting stations.

Obtainable from suitable enemies and V Blood encounters.
Once the ingredients are inserted and production begins, Nibbles will spawn at the Vermin Nest.
Important: Avoid leaving additional summoning materials queued in the station. You don't want to defeat one Nibbles only to discover that the castle's rodent infestation has acquired a replacement manager.
Bite: Nibbles' basic close-range attack.
Rage: when the rat glows red it launches a six-hit melee sequence. Create distance instead of trading into it.
Putrid Explosion: when Nibbles shakes, a green cloud builds around it before detonating. Leave the area immediately.
Burrow and Summon: Nibbles temporarily leaves the fight and summons a large pack of Giant Rats. Clear enough of them to restore safe movement before the boss returns.
Summon Nibbles only when your health and equipment are ready.
Stand away from the Vermin Nest and begin attacking with your ranged weapon.
Keep moving around the boss rather than retreating into a corner.
When Nibbles begins glowing red, disengage.
He performs a sequence of six melee attacks, so don't immediately approach after avoiding the first strike.
Wait until the sequence finishes before resuming damage.
This is the attack most likely to punish players who remain close to the boss.
When Nibbles shakes his coat and releases green mist, move outside the affected area.
Avoid attempting to squeeze in one additional melee attack. The damage gained isn't worth the risk of being caught by the explosion.
When Nibbles burrows underground, redirect your attention to the summoned Giant Rats.
Use Bone Explosion or another available area attack to damage multiple enemies.
Avoid letting them surround you. Move around the arena and eliminate them as efficiently as possible.
The current community sources differ on the total number of Giant Rats summoned, so the final article will avoid specifying an exact count until verified against the target build.
Once Nibbles reappears, resume ranged pressure.
Keep enough distance to react to Rage and Poison Explosion.
Continue alternating between ranged attacks, movement and clearing summoned enemies.
There is no requirement to fight Nibbles quickly. The advantage of choosing your own arena is that you can create plenty of space for a controlled encounter.
The putrid area attack is especially punishing on Brutal and community reports consistently identify it as the encounter's major danger. Do not mistake the shaking animation for harmless downtime: disengage as soon as the green mist begins forming.
Use area damage for the summoned rats and avoid fighting Nibbles in a cramped part of your castle.
Defeating Nibbles unlocks Rat Form, a transformation that makes you harder for enemies to detect.
It is useful for travelling through dangerous areas, avoiding unnecessary combat and recovering dropped equipment after dying.
Rat Form is not complete invisibility. Certain enemies can still detect you, and taking damage breaks the transformation.
Practical uses for Rat Form
