V Rising 1.1 boss guide for Maja the Dark Savant, covering location, key attacks, Normal and Brutal Mode strategy, rewards and progression.

Maja the Dark Savant is part of the Risen Ancients V Rising 1.1 boss-guide progression. This guide covers where to find the encounter, the attacks that matter, a practical Normal strategy, Brutal Mode considerations and the progression rewards.
Verified 1.1 level: 47
Maja resides inside the Forbidden Tower in northeastern Dunley Farmlands.
Her encounter takes place within a library-style arena. You won't need to track a roaming patrol or wait for her to reach a suitable location.
Before entering, repair your equipment, select your blood type and prepare healing supplies.
If you are struggling to reach the recommended gear level, revisit your Hollowfang armour, Iron weapons and available jewellery upgrades.
Paper Barrage
Maja swings her book and launches four lines of pages towards the player.
Counter: Move sideways through a gap or use a defensive ability.
Ink Bolt
Maja launches a dark ink projectile. If it connects with a suitable target, it can produce an Ink Demon.
Counter: Sidestep the projectile. Avoid allowing it to strike allied summons.
Ink Demon Summoning
Maja creates additional demons that pursue and attack the player.
Counter: Eliminate threatening demons without abandoning awareness of Maja's next projectile attack.
Consume
Maja draws an Ink Demon towards her book. If it reaches her, the book closes around it, destroying the demon and restoring a substantial amount of her health.
Counter: Immediately focus damage on the selected demon before it reaches her.
Paper Cut
Introduced at approximately half health on Normal difficulty.
Maja summons seven lines of pages, followed by another seven from a different angle.
Counter: Position yourself between the lines and prepare for the second wave.
Brutal: Flying Books
Three books continuously circle the arena and damage players on contact.
Brutal: Early Paper Cut
Maja can use Paper Cut before reaching half health.
Brutal: Enhanced Consume
Successfully consuming an Ink Demon also produces three ink blobs, each capable of summoning another demon where it lands.
Begin from medium-to-long range and use Chaos Volley or your ranged weapon to establish damage.
Keep moving sideways rather than standing still to complete every attack.
The objective is to avoid Ink Bolt while maintaining enough damage to defeat summoned demons when necessary.
When Maja swings her book, prepare for four lines of incoming pages.
Move between the projectiles or use Blood Rite if you're unable to find a clear opening.
Avoid wasting Veil on attacks you can sidestep comfortably.
This is one of the encounter's most important mechanics.
An Ink Bolt that misses you is much less troublesome than one that produces another demon.
Maintain enough distance to recognise the projectile and move out of its path.
Avoid placing allied summons directly in front of Maja, where they can become additional targets.
When demons appear, eliminate those threatening your movement.
You don't necessarily need to stop attacking Maja every time a demon appears, but don't allow them to accumulate uncontrollably.
A Greatsword can help clear several nearby enemies, while ranged attacks are useful against isolated demons.
When Maja begins pulling a demon towards her book, switch your attention to that specific enemy.
Destroy it before it reaches her.
How to stop Consume
Watch for Maja beginning to draw a demon towards herself.
Identify the selected demon.
Immediately stop your normal damage rotation.
Attack the demon with your strongest available direct damage.
Destroy it before it reaches Maja's book.
Resume attacking Maja once the healing opportunity has passed.
Allowing repeated successful Consume casts can extend the encounter dramatically.
At approximately half health, Maja gains Paper Cut.
She launches seven lines of pages, followed by another seven from a different angle.
Don't treat the first wave as the entire attack.
Position yourself between the initial projectiles, then adjust for the second wave.
Continue maintaining distance and prioritising the demon selected for Consume.
If the arena becomes crowded, use your Greatsword or area damage to regain control.
Avoid trying to finish Maja while several demons are still attacking you. Her remaining health can be restored if Consume succeeds.
Persistent flying books and enhanced Consume
Maja's Brutal encounter adds three continuously moving books, allows Paper Cut earlier and makes successful Consume significantly more punishing.
Mechanic | Normal | Brutal
Flying books | Absent | Three persistent hazards
Paper Cut | Begins around half health | Available earlier
Successful Consume | Restores health | Also creates three new Ink Demons
Main priority | Interrupt healing | Prevent healing and summon escalation
Positioning | Medium-to-long range | Maintain awareness of circling books
Keep moving around the arena while attacking Maja from a distance.
Avoid Ink Bolt and destroy the selected demon whenever she begins Consume.
Watch the three flying books rather than concentrating exclusively on Maja's animations.
A player discussion from May 2024 describes this approach using ranged weapons and spells while avoiding summons. It remains a useful strategy, although individual equipment choices should be adapted to the current version.
Another documented approach uses a Greatsword and two defensive spells.
Stay near Maja, circle around her and use the Greatsword's sweeping attacks to damage nearby demons.
Rotate defensive abilities to avoid incoming projectiles.
This requires more confident timing but can prevent the arena from filling with enemies. Players discussing solo Brutal encounters in April 2025 reported success with this setup.
A successful Consume does more than restore health.
It creates three additional ink blobs that summon further demons.
Those demons can then provide more opportunities for Maja to heal, potentially creating a difficult cycle.
Preventing the first successful Consume is therefore a much better strategy than trying to recover afterwards.
Maja grants a Tier 1 Illusion Spell Point, the Study, Scroll recipe, Verdant Garden Fencing, Wall Hanging Shelves and Midnight clothing recipes.
