Kriig the Undead General V Rising boss guide artwork

Kriig the Undead General is part of the Risen Ancients V Rising 1.1 boss-guide progression. This guide covers where to find the encounter, the attacks that matter, a practical Normal strategy, Brutal Mode considerations and the progression rewards.

Location and preparation

Verified 1.1 level: 47

Finding Kriig

Kriig occupies the Haunted Iron Mine in Dunley Farmlands.

He normally appears towards the southern end of the mine, where there is enough room to fight without continually attracting the undead patrols found elsewhere in the tunnels.

Preparing the mine

Clear nearby skeletons before engaging Kriig.

Avoid standing in areas affected by the mine's erupting Unholy energy.

The safest straightforward approach is to fight him in his usual arena rather than dragging him through the entire mine.

There is, however, an alternative strategy involving Meredith.

Attacks and abilities

Key attacks

Unholy Explosion: Kriig raises his scythe and creates an Unholy circle around himself that detonates after a delay.

Unholy Anchor: three anchors fire toward the player and pull them toward Kriig on contact, often setting up Unholy Explosion.

Unholy Whirlwind: Kriig spins repeatedly, dealing sustained damage to anyone caught nearby.

Defensive shield: avoid attacking into his shield because doing so can create additional enemy pressure.

How to beat Kriig the Undead General

Keep enough distance to move between the three anchors and immediately create space if one pulls you toward Kriig. Run out of Whirlwind rather than trading through it. Meredith can also patrol the Haunted Iron Mine, and allowing the two bosses to fight each other can substantially change the encounter.

Brutal Mode strategy

Brutal difficulty: The exploding skeleton army

Additional summons and chain-reaction explosions

Brutal difficulty fundamentally changes the encounter's priorities.

Kriig continuously summons Armoured Skeletons, and his Reaper Whirlwind can turn them into delayed explosives.

If several skeletons are close together, one explosion may trigger further explosions.

Normal versus Brutal

Mechanic | Normal | Brutal

Passive skeleton summoning | No | Approximately every 5 seconds

Ward retaliation | One skeleton | Two skeletons

Whirlwind interaction | Snares players | Also marks skeletons with Agony

Skeleton explosions | No | Yes

Main priority | Manage summons | Prevent explosive accumulation

Recommended Brutal strategy

First: Clear the arena before starting.

Second: Equip a reliable area-damage spell.

Third: Eliminate newly summoned skeletons regularly rather than waiting until the arena is crowded.

Fourth: Watch for skeletons glowing green after Reaper Whirlwind.

Fifth: Leave their explosion radius immediately.

Sixth: Never attack Ward of the Damned unnecessarily. On Brutal, this creates twice as many additional skeletons.

Can you use the explosions against Kriig?

The chain reactions can eliminate other skeletons, potentially clearing the arena.

However, deliberately remaining close to trigger them is dangerous. Treat the explosions as hazards first and incidental crowd control second.

What about using Meredith?

The boss-versus-boss strategy remains available.

Kriig's explosive skeletons can also devastate Meredith and her militia, so don't assume she will survive long enough to finish him.

Rewards and unlocks

Kriig grants a Tier 2 Unholy Spell Point, the Iron Reaper and Skeleton Priest recipes, plus the Nocturne Door Bell structure.
