Verified 1.1 level: 57
Cassius patrols the roads in the northern half of the Ruins of Mortium.
Use the V Blood tracking interface rather than relying on one fixed location. The western paths are a useful starting point when searching for him.
Before engaging, inspect the surrounding area.
Cassius travels with lesser Draculin, and nearby enemies can become involved if you fight him along a busy road.
Ideally, separate him from unnecessary patrols and choose an open area.
Cassius approaches and performs a broad horizontal sword attack, sometimes followed by another strike.
Counter: Retreat outside its reach or dodge through the attack when safe. Avoid standing immediately in front of him after the first swing.
A marked circle appears beneath or near the player before erupting with Unholy energy.
Counter: Leave the indicated area before impact.
Cassius leaps and crashes down towards the player.
Counter: Move away from his landing position. Preserve Veil if your movement route is obstructed.
Cassius summons his sentient sword and becomes more resistant to damage.
Counter: Prioritise destroying the sword, then throw it back at him.
During the sword phase, Cassius continues launching Unholy attacks. Additional enemies can appear if the phase lasts too long.
Counter: Maintain movement and end the sword phase promptly.
These mechanics are documented in the existing encounter walkthrough.
Locate Cassius and inspect his patrol.
Clear or separate nearby lesser Draculin before concentrating on him.
Begin with ranged damage, then maintain enough distance to observe his opening attack.
His melee attacks cover a broad area.
Use short melee combinations and reposition before he starts another swing.
If you're using the Greatsword, preserve its mobility rather than spending every weapon ability immediately.
When a circular marker appears, leave the affected area.
Don't waste Veil on an attack you can avoid through ordinary movement.
Once the sword appears, stop focusing on Cassius.
Attack Nightfall Edge using your strongest available safe abilities.
The longer it survives, the greater the risk of additional enemies overwhelming you.
When Nightfall Edge falls, approach and collect it.
Throw it towards Cassius to knock him down.
This is your main damage opportunity.
Use Chaos Volley, weapon abilities or your ultimate while he is vulnerable.
Cassius can summon Nightfall Edge again.
Continue prioritising the sword whenever it appears.
Avoid chasing Cassius across the battlefield while the sword remains active.
General Cassius is especially punishing when the Nightfall Edge sword phase overlaps with nearby Draculin. Clear the surrounding patrols before the fight and keep an escape route available.
Prioritise Nightfall Edge: When Cassius summons his sword, switch targets immediately. Destroy it and use the resulting thrown-sword opportunity to stagger Cassius and deal damage.
Save defensive tools: Hold Veil for overlapping Unholy circles, leaps or projectiles rather than spending it automatically on every telegraph.
Use short damage windows: Avoid chasing Cassius while Nightfall Edge remains active. The current available evidence does not reliably establish a separate 1.1 Brutal-exclusive attack, so this guide does not invent one.
Older sources may still list Vampiric Brew. Update 1.1 moved the reward allocation to Elixir of the Bat.
