V Rising 1.1 boss guide for Errol the Stonebreaker, covering location, key attacks, Normal and Brutal Mode strategy, rewards and progression.

Errol the Stonebreaker is part of the Risen Ancients V Rising 1.1 boss-guide progression. This guide covers where to find the encounter, the attacks that matter, a practical Normal strategy, Brutal Mode considerations and the progression rewards.
Verified 1.1 level: 20
Errol is found deep inside the Bandit Copper Mine in central Farbane Woods.
Before engaging him, clear nearby miners and create a safe fighting area. Avoid starting the encounter while several ordinary enemies are attacking from different directions.
The mine is also an excellent opportunity to gather copper, so bring enough inventory space to make the journey worthwhile.
Errol begins with three main attacks and gains additional abilities when his health falls to approximately half.
Aftershock: Delayed shockwave
Errol slams the ground, creating a shockwave that travels across the battlefield and explodes after a short delay.
Counter: Move away from the marked line rather than simply avoiding the initial impact. The delayed explosion can still catch players who immediately return to attacking.
Uppercut
At close range, Errol charges towards the player with a heavy upward swing.
Counter: Move sideways and attack after the swing misses. This provides one of the clearest damage opportunities.
Spinning Knockback
Errol rotates with his weapon, striking nearby players and knocking them backwards.
Counter: Create distance as the animation begins. Avoid standing close enough to be pushed into an existing shockwave.
Summon Miners
Below approximately half health, Errol whistles and summons two ordinary miners.
Counter: Eliminate them when practical. Allowing them to remain alive complicates your positioning during the subsequent shockwaves.
Earthquake: Four-direction shockwave
Errol strikes the ground and sends four delayed shockwaves in different directions.
Counter: Identify the gaps between the lines and move into clear ground. Do not use your movement ability prematurely if walking out of the attack is sufficient.
Approach Errol after clearing nearby miners.
Start at medium distance and wait for him to commit to an attack. When he prepares an uppercut, move sideways and attack during his recovery.
Avoid standing directly beside him for extended periods. His spinning attack is designed to punish players who remain too close.
When Errol creates a shockwave, move outside its path and wait for the delayed explosion.
Do not immediately return to the marked ground simply because the initial animation has ended.
Use your ranged spell to maintain damage when approaching him would be unsafe.
Once Errol begins summoning miners, the fight changes from a relatively straightforward duel into an encounter involving several enemies.
Prioritise creating space. Remove the miners where possible, especially if they're interfering with your movement.
Trying to ignore them while dodging Errol's Earthquake is an unnecessary complication.
When Errol prepares his four-direction shockwave, stop attacking and identify the open space between the attack lines.
Move into the gap and wait for the explosions.
Do not retreat blindly. You can accidentally move along a shockwave's path rather than escaping it.
Once the summoned enemies are dealt with, return to the original strategy.
Bait the uppercut, punish the recovery and disengage before the next attack.
There is no reason to abandon a working strategy because Errol has only a small amount of health remaining.
Errol's verified core moveset remains Aftershock, Uppercut, Knockback, summoned miners and the four-direction Earthquake used from roughly half health. Current reliable references do not establish a separate 1.1 Brutal-only attack strongly enough to state one as fact.
For Brutal, shorten damage windows, clear miners promptly and preserve movement for overlapping delayed shockwaves. Treat the encounter as a positioning test rather than trying to trade through his attacks.
Errol's unlocks
Reward | Purpose
Tier 1 Chaos Spell Point | Develop your Chaos spell selection
Large Chest | Additional castle storage
Small Material Storage | Organise crafting resources
Small Gem Storage | Organise collected gems
Copper Torch and Brazier | Castle lighting and decoration
Important: Some older V Rising guides describe Errol as unlocking Aftershock directly. Under the spell-point system, the reward is a Chaos spell point, which can be spent within the relevant spell selection.
After defeating Errol, return to your castle with the copper you've gathered. Refine it and work towards improving your equipment.
The next guide in our opening sequence will be Rufus the Foreman, whose Woodworking Bench and crossbow unlocks provide another useful step in early-game progression.
