Verified 1.1 level: 30
Clive occupies the Bandit Sulphur Quarry in the southwestern corner of Farbane Woods. The surrounding area contains ordinary bandits and sulphur deposits.
Before engaging him, clear nearby enemies and identify an open section of the quarry.
The battlefield contains obstacles and explosive objects, so avoid beginning the encounter while surrounded.
Clive's quarry is a useful sulphur-gathering destination.
Bring sufficient inventory space and collect accessible deposits before returning to your castle.
You do not need to defeat Clive simply to gather every accessible resource in the surrounding quarry.
Cluster Bomb: Clive throws an explosive that splits into three bombs and then into nine smaller explosions, rapidly covering a large section of the quarry.
Time Bomb: Clive drops a large explosive at his feet with a wide blast radius and a delayed detonation. Leave the marked area rather than trying to finish a combo.
Enter the cleared quarry and engage Clive from medium range.
Use your crossbow or ranged spell to begin dealing damage, but keep moving between attacks.
Avoid standing near explosive barrels or other hazardous objects.
When Clive throws his Cluster Bomb, identify its initial landing point and move away.
Do not immediately return to attacking once the first bomb detonates.
The explosive divides into additional bombs, creating a much larger danger area.
Wait until the sequence finishes before approaching.
When Clive drops a large explosive near himself, move away from the blast radius.
This is not an opportunity to continue melee damage.
Use the time to reposition, check your health and prepare for his next attack.
After each explosive sequence, resume ranged pressure.
The Copper Crossbow works well because it allows you to maintain damage without repeatedly approaching Clive.
Use the spear only when the surrounding ground is clear and you can disengage comfortably.
Continue treating every explosive as dangerous, even when Clive has little health remaining.
His attacks can punish players who abandon their movement discipline to secure a quick final hit.
Additional Sticky Bomb mechanic
The documented Brutal encounter adds Sticky Bomb, a projectile that attaches to the player and detonates after a countdown. Its initial projectile can be countered, but the subsequent explosion cannot be countered once attached.
Preserve your defensive spell. Avoid using Blood Rite unnecessarily when Clive may be preparing Sticky Bomb.
Keep moving between attacks. Standing still makes the initial projectile easier to land.
Respect the countdown. If Sticky Bomb attaches, prioritise survival rather than continuing your offensive rotation.
Maintain open ground. Avoid positioning yourself where Cluster Bomb and Sticky Bomb could force you into the same restricted area.
Use shorter damage windows. Ranged damage remains useful, but you should avoid becoming committed to long attack animations.
Clive grants a Tier 2 Chaos Spell Point, the Alchemy Table and the Minor Explosive Box recipe.
The explosive recipe is an important progression unlock because it provides a route through destructible barriers such as the entrance used to reach Quincy the Bandit King.
