Bring suitable weapons, armour and enough survival resources for the facility you intend to enter.
Facilities can contain hostile robots and other dangers. Identify what is attacking before committing.
Patch 0.3.2 marks critical hits and hits on shields, giving clearer feedback about effective attacks.
Loot is replaceable. Passengers are your remaining lives, and the train battery is still draining outside.
EverRail remains in Early Access. Patch 0.3.3 reduced headshot damage from 2× to 1.5×, adjusted pistol damage relative to same-class rifles, and rebalanced damage, fire rate, range and magazine size across 32 weapon levels. Reassess older weapon rankings and aim for reliable, resource-efficient fights rather than assuming previous damage comparisons still apply.
Combat is a means of completing an expedition, not a requirement to eliminate every enemy in a facility. This guide prioritises repeatable preparation, recognising threats and making safe retreats. Exact weapon rankings are deliberately avoided because Early Access weapon balance has changed repeatedly, including a broad rebalance in patch 0.3.3.
Before entering a facility, check equipment condition, ammunition, health supplies and the expected enemy level. Compare weapons by whether they can reliably land hits at the distances you are likely to fight, not by rarity alone. Bring a tool or tactic suitable for shields and robots where available, and leave room to carry the item you entered for.
Enemy shields were rebalanced in patch 0.3.0 so regeneration slowed and scales with shield size. Patch 0.3.3 reduced how commonly late-facility enemies carry shields to approximately half, while making tall robots consistently tougher. Use hit indicators to tell when you are striking a shield, avoid wasting ammunition when you cannot sustain effective damage, and choose cover or a new angle before committing to a prolonged exchange.
EMP tools are for controlling the danger posed by electronic enemies, especially robots and turrets. Earlier balance changes differentiated the effect levels of the four EMP tools. Check which effect your equipped item actually provides and use the opening to reposition or finish an objective; do not rely on an old assumption that EMP pistol and rifle variants behave identically.
Patch 0.3.2 labels critical and shield hits and combines shotgun pellet damage into one displayed number. Patch 0.3.3 added separate impact, critical-hit and kill sounds. Use these cues to check whether shots are doing the intended job, but judge effectiveness across a whole encounter: ammunition used, damage taken and time spent matter more than a single large damage number.
Patch 0.3.3 made taller robots consistently tougher, increased late-robot health and damage, and reduced shield prevalence in late facilities. Earlier patch 0.3.2 increased suicide-spider encounters across facility types. Identify enemies before crossing open space, prioritise cover and a clear exit, and avoid assuming a familiar facility will contain the same threats every time. Re-evaluate any pre-0.3.3 route that depended on quickly eliminating high-level robots.
Leave when continuing would cost more than the reward is worth. Examples include low ammunition, depleted health supplies, repeated shielded enemies, an unclear exit or the train approaching its safe battery reserve. Retreat towards a known route rather than improvising deep in the facility. If a passenger dies, patch 0.3.3 retains the death location on the map, but a marked recovery location does not make it safe.
No fixed best-weapon or best-in-slot chart is presented here. Patch 0.3.3 changed four major weapon attributes across 32 weapon levels, corrected same-class pistol/rifle damage, and reduced headshot damage from 2× to 1.5×. A reliable comparison needs up-to-date in-game values, enemy type, available ammunition and the world's difficulty settings. Until those are measured, the safer recommendation is to upgrade the weapon class and range you use effectively.
Early patches reduced bullet spread for standard SMGs, pistols and rifles to improve consistency. Heavy variants and EMP pistols were excluded from those specific changes; shotguns were unchanged.
Custom settings can change robot damage, health, magazine capacity and enemy population per facility. A weapon that feels safe in one save may require more ammunition, cover or healing in another. When comparing tactics, note the game's patch, difficulty settings, weapon level and enemy size; otherwise results may not be comparable.
EMP guidance distinguishes robots and turrets. EMP equipment was rebalanced so the four EMP tools occupy distinct effect levels instead of pistol and rifle variants behaving identically.
Read damage feedback in context: labelled shield hits show when protection is absorbing fire; critical-hit cues confirm effective targeting; combined shotgun pellet damage prevents confusing multiple small numbers with separate attacks. In 0.3.3 normal hits, critical hits and kills also received different sounds. If an encounter is using resources too quickly, change position or withdraw instead of treating damage feedback alone as success.
The best fight is the one that achieves the expedition objective without consuming more health, ammunition and battery time than the reward is worth.
