Overview

The Grand Portal is one of the major systems delivered with Alchemy Factory 1.0. Its purpose is commercial: customers from distant cities can visit the shop through the portal, increasing the reach of the customer-facing side of your alchemy business.

What the Grand Portal actually changes

The portal is not another production machine. It changes customer access. The 1.0 release notes describe it as bringing additional customer traffic, while the wider full-release announcement places it alongside shop upgrades, Recognition and logistics as part of a more complete production-to-sales loop.

Prepare the factory before increasing customer pressure

Additional customer traffic is only valuable when there are enough products available to sell. Stabilise important production chains, protect shared ingredients and maintain useful finished-stock buffers before treating the portal as a shortcut to more revenue.

Build the shop around customer movement

Version 1.0 also reworked customer navigation. Customers can reach upper floors, the initial shop entrance can be removed and multiple shop gates can be built. The portal therefore belongs in a shop system that is much more flexible than the Early Access layout.

Combine the Portal with Shop Recognition

Shop Recognition replaced the old Reputation system and can increase reputation and profits. The Grand Portal increases customer access, while Recognition improves the commercial progression around those customers. Production capacity remains the foundation beneath both.

Watch for the real bottleneck

If portal-driven customer traffic causes shelves to empty, the solution may be more production, better transport, additional stocking capacity or a simpler shop layout. Trace the problem before expanding everything simultaneously.

Where the Portal fits in a mature factory

The Grand Portal makes the most sense once production, transport and shop management are working as a connected system. It is best understood as an advanced business multiplier: it can expose a strong supply chain to more customers, but it can expose a weak one just as efficiently.

Unlock and commercial requirements

The Grand Portal is a Workbench building available after reaching Alchemy Level V in the community research reference (labelled v1.1.5024 when checked on 27 October 2026). It is designed to draw customers from distant cities. It does not manufacture stock, and community guidance reports that additional Grand Portals do not stack customer-traffic bonuses; check the current in-game description before spending materials on another. Confirm the build cost and exact placement requirements in your current Workbench before committing to a layout.

Calculate the extra demand before expanding

Suppose your current shop sells 40 items a minute and the new customer flow raises demand to 50. That is a hypothetical planning example, not a guaranteed portal multiplier. If your factory only makes 42 items a minute, the finished-goods buffer will lose eight items a minute. A starting buffer of 240 therefore empties in roughly 30 minutes without other changes. Measure actual sales after portal activation and increase the limited product lines, not every machine.

Before using the PortalWhat to verify
Sellable stockCore shelves hold items that customers are authorised to purchase
RecognitionEnough Shop Reputation for higher-tier customer groups
Stock replenishmentProduction can keep finished-goods buffers stable
Shop circulationEntrances, upper floors and shelves remain accessible
Cash handlingAutomatic Cashier and its coin output do not back up

Licensed Alchemist: the relevant traffic upgrade

The community research data lists the first Licensed Alchemist application at Level V after producing 500 Soap. Its reported benefits include +30% Grand Portal Traffic Rate and +10% Shop Profit. Later levels require more advanced production. These are specified upgrade effects, not proof of a particular number of customers per minute. Use the shop's observed figures to judge whether increased traffic converts into actual sales. See the Shop Recognition and license reference.

After installation: diagnostic sequence

  1. Measure sales and customer visits for a comparable period before and after activation.
  2. Identify which product categories have the largest stock decline.
  3. Check whether a licence or Shop Recognition, not supply, is stopping a high-value item from selling.
  4. Resolve replenishment or checkout congestion before pushing additional traffic bonuses.
  5. Do not build extra portals merely to chase a duplicate traffic bonus; the current in-game description warns against it.

For the wider economics see the Research & Unlocks guide and community shop/customer mechanics. The latter is an independently maintained reference labelled v1.1.5024 on 27 October 2026, not an official game manual.
